Reflection

Microbiology was an interesting class. I like working in the lab and do experiment with the bacteria.

I think there to much work due and I was feeling  overwhelmed with everything.  I like the group

project that I did. Even if the result of it make me think about  eating chicken now. Overall it was a

great class. I have learn new stuff from the class. The  material that I learned will help me with my

career. I think will pay more attention with things around me. It was a great experience.

Microbiology and A&P are almost the same. Microbiology teach about microbes that affect us and

A&P teach about the different system in our body. How those system works. microbiology and A&P

work together. One look at the system and the other how the system is affected by the microbes we

encounter everyday. People encounters a lot of microbes everyday. if they don't clean after touching a
dirty stuff , they will get sick. If they work in hospital you have to wash your hands between patients.

All of those example are important for you to follow because you might cause a disease to another

patients. Anatomy and physiology we focus more on the function of the system instead where and

what part secrete this type of fluid.Microbiology give more information about what to do when you

have an infection. What cause it to happen. We are able to identify  the bacteria and his

pathogenicity compare to A&P. A&P helps where to locate the disease in the body parts.

Cholera

Cholera is an infection of the intestine by the bacteria vibrio cholerae.   Symptoms range from none to  mild to severe.  The symptoms are profuse diarrhea, vomiting, headache, abdominal cramps. Severe cholera without treatment kills half of affected individuals. Cholera is transmitted to human by contaminated food and water. Most cholera cases in developed countries are a result of transmission by food. In the developing country  is often water. People affected with cholera can transmit the disease to others
from fecal contamination of food and water caused by poor sanitation. To prevent cholera , you need to  inform people about it,sterilization of  equipment that have been in contact with an infected patient. water purification, inform people if  something is contaminated and how to decontaminated the water. Also practice hygiene like wash your hands with soap and water. Treatment  for cholera is  oral  rehydration  therapy, electrolyte, antibiotic, zinc supplementation.

In 2010 in Haiti they have a break out of cholera.  After the earthquake, people who were in camp site have cholera. They have poor sanitation. Most of those camp were crowed.  people start to get sick and most of them die from cholera.  they have 665,000 cases and 8183 deaths. Today they still have new case. The Government  informed people about new place  where the disease is  spread.

Investigation

There is a lethal infections cause by enterobacteriaceae (CRE). This bacteria is from the same family

such as E.coli  which live in the human digestive  system. Those germs become resistant to all the

antibiotic available. Those germs can go in the blood  , or other organ they don't belong like bladder

and cause infection there. This infection  can be difficult to be treated. It can kill a patient. it is

transmitted to other patient via other  utensils that was not sterilize properly. it can happen to

anybody in hospital or nursing home. it is an important disease that they should look at seriously. it

puts people life at risk of  an untreatable infection. Half of people who had severe infection cause by

(CRE). Every other day in hospital  there is an case of lethal infection in a patient. This infection has

no treatment for it just like ebola did if you like at.

Reflection

I think this class is very useful when it comes to help you with another class. This class helps me

make connection with A&P and chemistry. For example in A&P  last week we look at the digestive

system and also the cellular respiration.  it turns out i saw it in microbiology and it began to a review

for me. A&P and Microbiology have a lot in common.  It is very interesting to see are  we make a

connection with A&P and chemistry. I didn't  think about any connection with any other course until

you make one as an example. I think this class was for  studying microbes. This class is important

because of my career and it helps me understand other course  that is kind of related to it. This

course
also help you think more about health decision that you might need to make. I think Microbiology,

A&P, chemistry are courses that you cannot take it like is a joke. If you do the joke will be on you

when you have difficulty getting in the long term career that you want. ( healthcare) This course is

course helps me listen to the news about scientist stuff differently.

Chikungunya  is a virus transmitted to people by mosquitoes.  This virus is transmitted by  Aedes  aegipti  and aedes aebopictus mosquitoes. The most common symptom of the virus is  fever and joint pain. The symptom begins between 3-7 days. Some other symptom include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling or rash. People that are at risk to be infected include new born, older people and people with medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease.
There is no medicine to treat chikungunya. To reduce the symptom: get plenty of rest, drink a lot of fluid to prevent dehydration, take medicine such as ibuprofen, ,acetaminophen or paracetamol to relieve fever and  pain.
To prevent Chikungunya  use a mosquito bed net, put insect repellent, put window screen to prevent the mosquito to get in.

During the summer in Haiti people were infected with the virus of Chikungunya. Some member of my family contracted the disease via mosquito bite. they all have fever, joint pain, headache. where the mosquito bite them , were swelling. Since they have joint pain , some of them have difficulty walking straight and start walking funny. They were for almost a week. Since there is no treatment ( vaccine )  so  the doctor prescribe them paracetamol, ibuprofen and advise them to drink a lot of fluid. Also you can get infected again if another mosquito bite you. Helene have chikungunya already and was feeling better when another mosquito decided to bite her in the ears. Her ears were swelling
and have the fever again.

I n this class  I am learning important stuff that fits my longer career goals. For example when you

taking sample from a patient what to do and not do. It is not like you give me all the nursing

technique but the basics that really important in learning. This class it is like one step that I need to

take in the path of my career. I am a learner that need to see and practice more on what i am learning

in order to understand the material. it helps me see some connections with A&P, chemistry. the most

important  topic i have learn  is on staining and classification of the bacteria, microbial metabolism.

they are important because i did not know they have to do a test in order to put the bacteria in their

group where they belong. The information that i have learn in this class help me make better choices

when it comes to food or medicine that i take for flu. Overall it is a great class very interesting

material that we are learning, especially microbes.

I have came across an article on  cancer where they have created a device who can reach where cancer drug cannot. it is a small electric devices that deliver  chemotherapy drug, where it is most needed. it makes treatment more effective and less toxic. they have test it on dogs and mice and show that he can shrink tumor quickly than the infusion of the drug in the vein. a person who led the study  in university of north carolina said it will help patient who have pancreatic cancer once it goes on clinical trial.
people who have cancer there is hope when it come to treatment. it might take long to find it but it worth that you guys keep hope.

Chickenpox ( varicella)

What is chickenpox?

it is a very contagious disease cause by the varicella zoster virus. it causes a blister like rash, itching, tiredness and fever.it can be very complicated especially in children, adults and people who have a weak immune system. Chickenpox can be spread easily from an infected person to someone do not have chickenpox or have received the vaccine. also there are some complications for certain people who don't have a strong immune system because of a disease like cancer, pregnant women, infant and adolescent.
it can be spread from someone who have the shingles to someone who received the vaccine.the only that is efficient to prevent chickenpox is to be vaccinated. it is safe and prevent you to have it.

i had chickenpox once when i was a child. it gave me fever, rash, itching, hurting. first i had the fever than the rash start to appear on my face and then the rest of my body.it was a painful experience because i am itching and the rash was hurting me also.It was all over my body. my mom went to the doctor with me and they prescribe me some medicine. one was for the rash put it on. now when i went to the doctor still can know about it because my immune system still have the scar. Also i can still see the scab of the rash on my arm till today.
Teen's death from varicella highlights importance of catch-up vaccines
if you are a parent my suggestion to you it's to get your child vaccinated  for chickenpox. it might reduce the risk of having it and the painful process.
